Texas LNG Selects Low-Emission Tugboats for Brownsville Export Facility
Texas LNG, a subsidiary of Glenfarne Energy Transition, has entered into an agreement with Gulf LNG Tugs of Texas to construct, deliver, and operate tugboats for its upcoming LNG export facility in the Port of Brownsville, Texas.
The tugboats, as per Texas LNG, are set to be among the most advanced and environmentally friendly vessels available, aligning with the facility's "Green by Design" philosophy. This initiative aims to ensure that the operations at the 4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) facility are conducted with minimal emissions.
Brendan Duval, CEO and Founder of Glenfarne Energy Transition, expressed satisfaction with the selection, stating, "The Texas LNG team meticulously evaluated marine service providers to find a partner that shares our commitment to environmental responsibility while delivering reliable and cost-effective services to our customers. We are delighted to have Gulf LNG Tugs on board and anticipate the positive impact they will bring to both Texas LNG and the local Rio Grande Valley community."
Gulf LNG Tugs echoed this sentiment, expressing enthusiasm for the partnership and their role as the exclusive tugboat operator for LNG vessels at the Port of Brownsville. They anticipate contributing to the success of Texas LNG's project while also expanding their operations and community involvement in the region.
The construction of the Texas LNG export terminal in the Port of Brownsville is slated to reach financial closure and commence construction in 2024. Commercial operations are anticipated to begin in late 2027 or early 2028.
Glenfarne Energy Transition holds a majority stake in Texas LNG and serves as its managing member. Samsung Engineering, along with Technip Energies U.S., is leading the delivery of the facility, with a minority equity interest owned by Samsung Engineering.
Earlier this year, Texas LNG announced a heads of agreement (HOA) with EQT Corporation for natural gas liquefaction services, covering 0.5 MTPA of LNG.
Furthermore, in late 2023, Texas LNG partnered with industry leaders Baker Hughes and ABB to assist in the development of the terminal. This collaboration represents a significant investment, with equipment selections totaling over half a billion dollars to date, further solidifying the project's progress.
